Booking your first Lagree class can feel a little intimidating. You have probably seen the workouts on Instagram, heard friends rave about the results, and noticed the long black machines that look nothing like anything at a typical gym. The good news is that Lagree is designed to be scalable for every fitness level, and walking in with a few expectations will help you feel confident from the moment you step on the Megaformer.
At Lagree + Versa Fit in Oceanside, we welcome first-timers every single day. Here is exactly what your first Lagree class will look like, how to prepare, and why most people are hooked after one session.
Arriving at the Studio
Plan to arrive at least fifteen minutes before your first Lagree class. This gives you time to check in, meet your instructor, get a quick tour of the Megaformer, and secure a spot near the front of the room where you can easily see demonstrations. Bring grip socks (we have them available if you forget), a water bottle, and a small towel. Leave phones, watches, and jewelry in the cubbies so you can focus fully on your body.
Wear form-fitting athletic clothing that allows the instructor to see your alignment. Loose shorts and baggy tops tend to get in the way when you are moving through planks, lunges, and core work on a moving carriage.
Meeting the Megaformer
The Megaformer is the piece of equipment that makes Lagree so effective. It looks intimidating, but at its core it is a moving platform with springs that add or reduce resistance. Your instructor will walk you through the key parts before class begins, including the front platform, the carriage, the handlebars, and the cables. You will learn how to adjust spring load and what the different standing, kneeling, and lying positions feel like.
Do not worry about memorizing everything. A good portion of your first Lagree class is spent learning how your body responds to the machine. Instructors at Lagree + Versa Fit are trained to offer hands-on adjustments and easier modifications for anyone who needs them.
What the Workout Actually Feels Like
Lagree is often called the most effective forty-minute workout in fitness, and for good reason. Every move is performed slowly and under constant tension. You will feel your muscles shake, burn, and fatigue in a way that is completely different from traditional gym workouts. That shake is the signal that your slow-twitch muscle fibers are firing, which is exactly what sculpts lean, strong, balanced muscle.
Expect to target your core, glutes, legs, arms, and back in a single session. Transitions between exercises are quick, which keeps your heart rate elevated. The workout is low-impact, so there is no jumping, pounding, or joint stress. If you have struggled with knee, back, or hip pain at high-intensity classes, this is often the style of training that finally works for you.
You Will Be Challenged, Not Embarrassed
A common worry before a first Lagree class is that you will not be able to keep up. Here is the truth: everyone in the room is working at their own level, including the person next to you who looks like a pro. Instructors cue modifications constantly, and you are encouraged to rest anytime you need to. The workout is intense, but it is also supportive and welcoming, especially at a boutique studio where class sizes are small.
Expect to sweat, breathe hard, and laugh a little when your legs start shaking. That shake is the workout working.
After Your First Lagree Class
You will probably feel an unfamiliar kind of tired: muscles worked from angles they have never been worked from, but no aching joints or cardio crash. Hydrate well, eat a solid meal with protein within an hour or two, and plan your next class while your motivation is fresh. Most people see the best results when they commit to two to three Lagree classes per week for the first month.
Soreness is normal for the first few sessions, but it fades quickly as your body adapts. By your third or fourth class, the movements feel familiar, the burn feels satisfying, and you start to notice real changes in your core, posture, and strength.
